Arezo Amirikia, M.D. is a board certified ophthalmologist with extensive training in diseases and surgery of the retina and vitreous. She is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Doctor Amirikia is currently in private practice in addition to serving as Division Chief of the Department of Ophthalmology and Secretary and Treasurer at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital.


Having received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan and her medical degree from Wayne State University, Doctor Amirikia went on to complete a residency in ophthalmology at Kresge Eye Institute where she was Chief Resident. Next, she completed a medical retina fellowship at the New England Eye Center, Tufts University followed by a vitreoretinal fellowship at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, University of Miami.


Doctor Amirikia has authored numerous papers, book chapters, and abstracts in her field and has presented her findings at several scientific meetings. She has been involved in several multicenter clinical trials. She is active in medical student, resident, and fellow teaching. Doctor Amirikia has served as President of the Michigan Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons in addition to numerous local, state, and national positions.

Although familiar with all diseases and conditions of the eye, Doctor Amirikia is particularly skilled in the diagnosis and treatment of retinal disorders. Her interests include intravitreal injections and laser therapy for age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal vascular occlusions in addition to vitreoretinal surgery for macular holes, epiretinal membranes, and repair of retinal detachment.
